Having the ability to be a voyager to the world, to see the natural beauty of wildlife without them even knowing you’re there. There’s something special and sacred in that ability. It provides experiences that we, as hunters, will treasure for a lifetime.
We sat in the shadows, awaiting the thunderous gobble that fuels our passion for spring turkey hunting. Moments after we sit down, as we watch the sun come up over the field, it happens… The birds begin to wake up and give away their position – they’re close! Not long after they fly down, two hens start sounding off on the other side of us. We are between two very vocal hens and three aggressively gobbling toms (this is what turkey hunting dreams are made of)!
With both myself and my hunting partner outfitted in NOMAD NWTF Mossy Oak Bottomland camo and the turkey decoys set up, my adrenaline is through the roof! After we realize what is going on, we start aggressively cutting off the dominant hens calls with our own yelps and cuts. She becomes enraged as starts calling more aggressively and moving closer. Now the toms have heard all the commotion and are gobbling at every peep coming from us and the hen. For about 20 minutes there is nonstop calling between us, the hens and the toms!
The hen comes within 15 yards then suddenly turns and leaves. The woods fall silent for about 10 minutes, probably one of the longest 10 minutes of my life. Then we decide to let out an assembly yelp – the toms start gobbling again. Suddenly, one appears in the field about 100 yards away and he is coming closer by the second! Next this we know he is 25 yards away and BOOM!!! My hunting partner, Wes, took the shot and killed a beautiful Maryland turkey! The NOMAD camo worked flawlessly!
About a week later, we were in the same spot, right up against the same tree Wes had shot the bird from. We call a beautiful hen up to about 10 yards and get some great pictures and video! She had no clue we were watching her! Even with a high of 85 degrees that warm May morning, I was comfortably cool.
NOMAD’s NWTF line wicks moisture and provides breathable mesh in areas where people tend to sweat the most. The mask was very light weight and breathable as well, making the use of diaphragm calls easy. The pants reminded me of summer weight BDU pants. They are extremely tough, yet breathable at the same time. I’m absolutely in love with the NOMAD NWTF line of camo! Due to the extreme breathability of the material, I can wear the ¼ zip long sleeve shirt all summer long after being diagnosed with an allergy to sunlight. This shirt prevents the UV rays from touching my skin, keeping me cool and comfortable all day long!
Being able to watch animals in their most natural state is very important to me. Being able to do so comfortably is just icing on the cake!
I can’t wait to try out other NOMAD Outdoor clothing collections!
Check out NOMAD Outdoors online, you can also find them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
Until next time!
